LSU University College’s Summer Scholars is an eight-week summer bridge program that prepares selected under-represented minority students to make a successful transition from high school to the University.  This summer experience offers students the opportunity to become adjusted to the academic, personal, and social challenges that may encounter at LSU.  Students are provided with a structured environment conducive to building the fundamental skills necessary to enhance the likelihood of successful completion of a baccalaureate degree.

    BATON ROUGE – LSU University College hosted its annual Phi Eta Sigma Initiation Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov, 5, at LSU Student Union Royal Ballroom. University College's Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma inducted 49 freshmen scholastic achievers.

    BATON ROUGE – LSU University College is currently accepting nominations for the following notable awards: 

    The George H. Deer Distinguished Teaching Award is open to any LSU faculty member who teaches courses for which University College students are enrolled, both the Center for Freshman Year and the Center for Advising and Counseling.

    The Alumni Association Teaching Assistant Award is given in recognition of outstanding teaching ability and service to students. At the freshman level (1000- and 2000- level courses) teaching assistants make up a significant portion of the instructional program.

    The Advisor of the Year Award is based on the national criteria of the National Academic Advising Association, or NACADA. The award is designed to honor individuals who are making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising and to disseminate information about these contributions to other professionals in the field.

    BATON ROUGE – Robby S. Bowen, academic counselor and pre-health advisor for LSU College of Science, has been selected as an Outstanding Advising Award Winner from the National Academic Advising Association, or NACADA. Bowen will head to Minneapolis in October to be recognized at the highest level for academic advising.
