It is with an incredible sense of honor that I begin my term as LSU Staff Senate president for 2012-2013. I have had the privilege to serve as an LSU Staff Senator since 2005 and previously as its president in 2009-2010. I am joined this year by an outstanding 5-member Executive Committee, including: Lynn Livingston, president-elect; Tammy Millican, secretary; Igor Matkovic and Donna Torres, members-at-large; and Kristie Galy, immediate past-president. We, along with the entire membership of the Staff Senate, pledge to fulfill our obligation to:

• promote and protect the welfare of the LSU staff;
• facilitate the effective exchange of information between the LSU administration and staff; and
• advance programs to enhance the personal and professional well-being of the staff as well as encourage their vocational and educational development.

Collectively, the staff of LSU has demonstrated tremendous dedication and unwavering loyalty to our flagship university. These efforts have, in no small measure, enabled the university to thrive despite continued erosion of state support. More important than ever, your commitment to excellence and active participation in staff governance will be instrumental as we work toward more promising economic times.
