    Thank you for visiting your Staff Senate website. The Staff Senate is made up of representatives of employees in every category on campus who are elected by their peers and are dedicated to serving the needs of their constituency. Staff Senators volunteer their time and energy to ensure that LSU is the best that it can be, for all of us and we are ready and willing to respond to your concerns. This site is designed to help you learn more about what we do and how you can contact us. It will also provide updates on issues and events affecting the staff at LSU.

    As we are fond of repeating, “We work for you.”

    The LSU Staff Senate has been the recognized organization for staff employees since 1976. The Staff Senate provides a bridge between staff and the LSU administration, effectively conveying to LSU officials those issues and concerns of the staff. We have worked with the administration to improve working conditions and employee benefits, including:

    • working to obtain improvements in health care options;

    • creating the Crisis Leave Program that allows employees to donate leave to other employees in health crisis situations;

    • lobbying for and serving on various search committees;

    • emphasizing the need for daycare for the children of faculty, staff, and students;

    • providing two Staff Senate Scholarships per academic year for a dependant of staff members;

    • raising funds for the newly established Staff Senate Fee Support Scholarship to create scholarships for employees to help defray registration fees;

    • organizing and managing a volunteer network to mentor new staff employees;

    • creating and hosting Holiday on Campus, a festive event for all children of the LSU community that also provides toys and food for the less fortunate in the Baton Rouge area;

    • established the Weight Watchers at Work Program in two locations on campus; and continue to voice the need and initiate opportunities for a comprehensive wellness program for all LSU employees.
