Extraction of Policosanols & Dietary Fibers From Bagasse

This technology is a chemical-free process to extract dietary fiber and cholesterol-lowering policosanols from sugarcane fiber, “bagasse”.  Animal studies show significantly better weight gain attenuation, enhanced insulin sensitivity, and modulation of leptins and glucagon-like peptides (GLP-1) with sugarcane fiber (SCF) over cellulose-supplemented diets. Significantly lower fat mass was found in SCF-supplemented populations than those of cellulose- and psyllium-supplemented populations. The color, taste and texture of bread, composed of 10% bagasse-fiber by weight, has been found to remain unchanged which suggests that this delivery method may be more pleasant.
