Description: A novel technique for routing optical packets in the optical domain over WDM networks. Very cost effective and feasible solutions for optical buffering and for maintaining signal integrity and qulaity are presented. Header processing/update are done electronically in a manner that does not require additional expenses for packet buffering while the processing and update are taking place. Regeneration may take place only if need be and when done it is done in a functionally transparent manner.
