Undergraduate Program

What is "mass communication"?
Mass communication is the study of the mass media (Internet, television, radio, newspapers, magazines) and the individuals and organizations that produce or contribute to the mass media (journalists, public relations professionals, advertising executives, political communicators).

Undergraduate Program
The undergraduate program at the Manship School of Mass Communication offers a broad scope of mass communication courses, ranging from media writing and production to media law and ethics, which gives students training and hands-on experience necessary to advancing their career in the future. Majors in the Manship School work toward a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication. They concentrate their studies in one of four areas: Advertising, Journalism, Political Communication and Public Relations.

How do I become a Manship School student?
Check out our blog for prospective students, where you can learn more, see photos, post comments and ask questions. Admission into the Manship School is selective, which means smaller class sizes and more one-on-one interaction between faculty and students.
Download the application or learn more about admissions.

Graduate on time. The Manship School focuses on helping students graduate in 8 semesters. To facilitate this process, the school has helped design and implement CATS, a critical path tracking system for students. This is required for all entering freshmen. If you get off track, a Manship School counselor will work with you to solve the issue. Current students can follow the track online and are ultimately responsible for making sure that they stay on track. Prospective students can look at the tracks to see what courses they would take in the school to complete a degree.

Journalism Concentration
It's all about great storytelling!

Our journalism area focuses on solid, creative and ethical storytelling in a multimedia world. While the concentration is divided into print and broadcast, we have a converged curriculum. All journalism students develop the necessary writing and visual skills that allow for production of stories across platforms--print, broadcast and Web.
