Walter “Kenny” Williams
Walter “Kenny” Williams graduated in 1981 with a BS in Health and Physical Education and an additional emphasis in coaching. Upon graduation, his first job was as a long term substitute at Park Forest Middle School in Baton Rouge teaching health and physical education. In 1983 he moved to a permanent position at McKinley Middle School where he stayed until assuming his first principal position at Kenilworth Middle School (1996-97) before moving to his current position (1997) as assistant principal of Glasgow Middle School. Walter’s desire to change his job focus was rooted in his desire to help children and make a difference in their lives.
Looking back at his four years at LSU two things still stand out as important or meaningful events in his life. The first, from a fun perspective was being able to watch the “Cookie Man” play basketball and Charley Alexander play football. The second thing was is remembrance of the faculty who he described as being “generous of their time and talents”. “I especially remember Dr. Magill, Dr. Amelia Lee, Mr. Roy Hill and Ms. Kathy Hill. Many of us played tennis together every day after class in the summer and it was a lot of fun.”
Walter and his wife Angela have one son, Carlus, one Grandson, Jaydin Michael Williams, and they enjoy bowling in tournaments throughout the country, including the two national tournaments held here in Baton Rouge. Walter is active in his church choir and looks forward to retiring and devoting more time to his newest hobby, photography.
