The Department of Sociology confers formal minors to PhD students in other departments. The student has to take 12 credits from the Department of Sociology. Three credits must be earned in either Contemporary or Classical Theory and three more must be earned in an Independent Study directed by the Minor Professor. The remaining six credits are electives at the graduate level, approved by the Minor Professor.
PhD students in sociology also have the option of earning a formal minor in other related disciplines, including multidisciplinary programs like Women's and Gender Studies and African and African American Studies.
