L.M. "Pat" and Mildred Harrison Professorship
Denise Egéa-Kuehne is L.M. "Pat" and Mildred Harrison Professor and Director of the French Education Project in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy and Practice, College of Education, Louisiana State University. She is a Fellow in the Philosophy of Education Society, and a Phi Kappa Phi scholar. Her primary areas of scholarship are theory and philosophy of education, curriculum studies, gender studies, and culture and language studies with a focus on human, cultural, linguistic, and educational rights, ethics, diversity and social justice, especially in their relationship with education and democracy. She has made major contributions to the educational interpretation of key theorists and philosophers (Bachelard, Cixous, Derrida, Freire, Irigaray, Kant, Kristeva, Levinas, Serres).
Her work is recognized abroad and she was a guest lecturer and keynote speaker at University of Ottawa, Canada; University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus; University of Sofia, Bulgaria; University of Malta, Msida, Malta; University of Tampere, Finland; University of Auckland, New Zealand; University of Wales, Aberyswyth, Wales; University of Dundee, Scotland; University of Oxford, England; Adam Mickiewicz Universiteit, Poznan, Poland; University of Utrecht, The Netherlands; and the universities of Lyon, Paris X-Nanterre, Paris 7-Jussieu, and La Sorbonne in France. Locally, she provides multiple professional development opportunities for teachers of foreign languages, via pre-service and in-service education, summer institutes, workshops, colloquia and conferences, including videoconferences.
Through the French Education Project, she endeavors to support, enhance and improve the teaching of French and francophone cultures with special emphasis on Louisiana's francophone heritage.
