LSU Safe Space Campaign/LGBTQ Project

The Office of Multicultural Affairs’ Safe Space Campaign actively works to make LSU a safer space for all students regardless of sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression. The campaign emphasizes providing educational opportunities, ongoing professional development, and programming for students, staff, faculty and administration about the unique challenges that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ) individuals and their allies often encounter. The campaign also works with students, staff, faculty, administration, student organizations, and university departments to represent LGBTQ concerns; provides advocacy and resources; and organizes LGBTQ panels and presentations.

 

First Contact

First Contact is designed for students who are in need of guidance and support as they begin to encounter the LGBTQ community, First Contact is an opportunity for interested students to be paired up with a trained peer contact. Students that are either out, in the closet, or simply questioning benefit from having one on one guidance from a peer that has experience with coming out and the LGBTQ community at LSU.

 

Spectrum @ LSU

Spectrum empowers and supports LSU lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) communities as well as their allies, by providing social support, education, programming, and opportunities to participate in campus and community activism.

 

OUTLaw @ LSU Law School

The mission of OUTlaw is to create a climate  at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in which it is safe and comfortable to be openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or an ally (“LGBT”). OUTlaw members aim to promote education, awareness, and advocacy of LGBT issues to LSU Law students, faculty, and staff and seek to create an atmosphere of acceptance and comfort, instill justice, and combat discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

 

LSU Sexual Assault Support and Services

Louisiana State University is committed to providing confidential, nonjudgmental and appropriate support services for all sexual assault survivors, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, ability, or whether or not they report the crime.

 

WOW

The purpose of Women Organizing Women is to promote feminist awareness and community activism on the LSU campus. WOW plans educational programs and social gatherings to facilitate community interest in women’s and gender issues. WOW is open to all students seeking enlightenment, involvement, and is a great way to meet fellow activists!

 

GALE @ Southern Law School

The Gay Alliance for Legal Equality promotes equality and diversity among the legal community and raises awareness of LGBT legal issues.

 

TOGA @ Tulane Medical School, Baton Rouge Campus

Tulane Organization of Gays and Allies works to educate the greater Tulane medical community on health issues that pertain to GLBT patients and health care providers, to promote health in the local GLBT community, and to provide a support network for GLBT medical students.

 

LSU Career Services

The mission of Career Services is to assist students and alumni in choosing careers, obtaining career-related work experiences while in school, developing job search skills, and securing employment or admission to graduate or professional school.

 

Career Services has been honored by Out for Work for providing superior workplace and career readiness resources to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer university students.

PFLAG Baton Rouge

Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, education, and advocacy.

 

Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center

The mission of BRCIC is to offer prevention, intervention and postvention services that provide support in times of crisis and reduce the impact of suicide in the community.

 

Youth Oasis

Youth Oasis provides necessary support services to runaway, abandoned and homeless youth within the Greater Baton Rouge Area including a Transitional Living Program for youth ages 16-21 and an emergency shelter for youth ages 10-17.

 

Capital City Alliance

CCA's mission is to improve the quality of life for LGBT people and their allies in Greater Baton Rouge through education, communication, advocacy and community building.

 

Louisiana Trans Advocates

Louisiana Trans Advocates strengthens and supports transgender and allied communities across the state through social support, education, empowerment, and advocacy in order to promote self-determination of gender identity and gender expression for everyone.

 

Equality Louisiana

Equality Louisiana works to achieve full equality for all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people in Louisiana by supporting the development and on-going success of strong LGBT college, local, regional, statewide, and allied organizations while also providing a collective voice for the expansion of civil rights through policy and legislative advocacy.

 

BRASS

Baton Rouge AIDS Society serves as a testing and training provider to the state of Louisiana, with special emphasis on the Greater Baton Rouge area, offering avenues which foster ethical, personal, social-emotional and intellectual development. We believe these qualities are essential to making appropriate choices that will ultimately decrease the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs, as well as increase civic responsibility.

 

HIV/AIDS Alliance for Region Two (HAART)

Given the widespread nature of HIV/AIDS throughout Louisiana, with emphasis in Baton Rouge and the surrounding area, we dedicate ourselves to ensuring delivery and equitable direct services, reducing incidence, serving as an advocate for those affected by HIV, and providing accountability to the larger community.

 

Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge

Grounded in love and respect for nature and humanity and dedicated to the individual's search for truth, we provide a home where we can celebrate spiritual diversity and commit ourselves to serving the human community.

 

Metropolitan Community Church of Baton Rouge

MCC Baton Rouge is a Christian Church with a primary outreach to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Affirming community.
