Donate to LSU English
One of only eleven “Foundations of Excellence” at LSU, the English Department teaches about 10,000 LSU students each semester. In these difficult times for so many in our state, your donation can help sustain and enhance the LSU English Department’s great legacy of achievement. Your gift is essential for us to maintain our high standards of teaching and scholarship.
How Your Financial Support Will Help:
Develop new scholastic opportunities for our outstanding undergraduates
Fund awards and travel for our nationally recognized graduate students
Contribute to our acclaimed Readers and Writers speaker series
Sponsor literary events, such as lectures and conferences
Renovate seminar and conference rooms
Support faculty research projects, including travel to conferences and archives
Please check to see if your company will match your donation. Some, such as ExxonMobil, match donations to LSU with a ratio as high as 3 to 1. Your human resources department should be able to tell you if your company will help to stretch your gift.
Two Easy Ways to Make Your Tax-Deductible Gift
1. Donate online with a credit card:
The LSU Foundation provides a secure link for online donation. Near the bottom of the page, next to "Donation for," please use the two pull-down menus to select "College of Arts and Sciences," then "English," and then in the next blank, type the name of any specific initiative among those below that you would like your donation to support. Click here to make your secure online donation now.
2. Mail a check:
Write your checks payable to “LSU Foundation" with “LSU English Development Fund” on the memo line. You may wish to designate your gift as honoring someone (including a favorite professor) or some event.
Mail it to:
Dr. RIck Moreland, Chair
Department of English
Louisiana State University
Baton Rouge, LA 70803-5001
Although the donations are made through the LSU Foundation, they may only be used by the English Department--not by the Foundation itself or by the Alumni Association.
How to Donate to a Particular Award or Project
You may wish to direct your gift to help fund a specific award or project. We have many important initiatives. Among the dearest to us are those that commemorate a faculty member, a student, or a member of the community with a named award, perpetuating their memory while encouraging excellence among recipients. You may choose to endow such an award yourself or in combination with family and friends, or you may prefer to contribute to the those already established.
We are currently building endowments for:
The Robert Penn Warren Award for the best MFA thesis by an English MFA student at LSU
Two awards for the best dissertations by English PhD students at LSU: the Lewis P. Simpson and the James Olney Distinguished Dissertation Award
The Gale Carrithers Outstanding Essay Award for the best critical essay by a graduate student in English
The Matt Clark Fund in support of Creative Writing students
The Josephine A. Roberts Memorial Fund in support of the Roberts Seminar Room
To donate to any specific initiatives, such as these or others, just write a check to “LSU Foundation” with the appropriate English Department award name on the memo line and mail to:
Dr. Rick Moreland, Chair
Department of English
Louisiana State University
Baton Rouge, LA 70803-5001
Feel free to call the Chair or the Associate Chair of English to discuss particular gifts you may wish to make. The department phone number is 225-578-4086.
Please remember that even small amounts of money make a big difference. The LSU Department of English needs your friendship and your financial support.
